I am back in the work force
During the past several months I have been keeping my ears open for the right part-time job to come around that would help me A) Get out of the house, B) Contribute to the family financially, and C) Feel like I am making a difference in this world. Well, I had my first day today as a substitute teacher for the local schools here. I got the call at 5:50am and luckily T was off and I was able to fill in for the Industrial Tech teacher. Industrial Tech is better known to most of us as wood shop. I had 7th and 8th graders today. Wow... talk about stepping out of your comfort zone. I wrote "Mr. S" on the chalkboard so all the students could remember my name. After all, isn't that what all subs used to do when I was in school? The kids actually called me Mr. S... that felt weird. The day went great and most kids were good. I had to seperate a few kids for being disruptive, but overall it was a good time. I do not know how often they will need me to substitute teach, or how often I will be available to teach, but I hope I get to fill in alot more. Now, stop laughing, sit back down in your chair and get control of yourself... Yes, I got paid to teach 12 and 13 year olds wood shop... it is true.
